Following on from my involvement in WordCampUK 2008 and more modest contribution to WordCampUK 2009 I have been asked by Tony Scott (WordCampUK co-coordinator) to join the WordCampUK organsiation committee, soon to be officially formed to support the event.
WordCampUK is the UK conference for WordPress developers, designers and bloggers. It is an annual event – 2010 will be the third year of the conference.
In 2008, WordCampUK was held in Birmingham. Luckily I was able to help out being a local and arranged the venue (The old Orange Cafe – now called The Studio), designed and printed all the name badges and posters, wrote and designed the sponsorship pack, produced a DVD that was played throughout the venue with sponsor information and also presented on WordPress as a CMS (phew!!).
In 2009 I stated early on that I was too busy to be involved at that level again and luckily the wheels were already in motion with bids going in and Hayley running around sorting this years venue amongst other things! I stepped in to put together the press pack again, along with doing an hour long presentation on WordPress CMS workflow.
I’m looking forward to helping out with a whole bunch of nice people on the committee to ensure WordCampUK 2010 is a fantastic event. Planning has already begun and you will be aware from the discussion at the end of this years conference that a number of things will be changing to ensure that it offers great value for all attendees. With over 120 tickets sold last year, it’s clear that momentum is building around WordPress – and with the assurance of the continuing GPL license, WordPress is perfectly aligned with what I need out of a CMS platform.
